Spa Body Wraps and Treatments

Body Polishing

The skin is in a constant change so that newer cells are always generated underneath (dermis) and older cells are pushed to the outermost layer (epidermis) and die. The dead skin cells become keratinized and serve as a protective barrier against the elements and harmful substances. However, ageing decreases the usual rate of cell generation and dead cells may become unevenly piled up, rendering the skin a dull, dry and rough appearance. Exfoliation removes the bonds between dead cells and the skin in order to reveal the younger cells below.

Body polishing involves head to foot exfoliation. Different treatment centers offer varying exfoliants for use in the process but the main purpose is to remove the dead skin cells in order to oxygenate and rejuvenate the skin as well as encourage skin cell growth through gentle buffing and massaging of the skin. The effects of this treatment last for several days.

Body polishing is also effective in treating sun-damaged skin, skin dryness and dehydration, clogged pores and acne. A typical body polishing treatment lasts for about an hour and may precede a body wrap or a massage therapy. It is a relaxing and invigorating way of rewarding yourself after a hard day's work or as a way of pampering your loved ones.

Sugar and Sea Salt Glows

These are deep cleansing exfoliating treatments. Feel the stress melt away as your skin is gently massaged using a blend of either brown sugar or aromatic sea salts, mineral salts and essential oils to remove dead skin cells and impurities and to stimulate circulation.  Because of their abrasive qualities, salt, particularly sea salt and sugar, particularly brown sugar, have been used as exfoliants along with other substances such as coffee, ground nuts and wheat. Although the salt scrub is the most sought after treatment in most spas, the sweetening effects of sugar scrubs have been recently added to the menu of other exciting skin indulgences.

There is no big difference between using salt and sugar in scrubs, except that sugar is easier to dissolve and hence, the milder abrasive among the two. The best scrub experience is in the spa, where you will lie face down and relax while a therapist rubs the aromatic scrub all over your body. After around 15 minutes, your skin feels fresh and clean, velvety soft, satiny smooth, hydrated and radiant with that salt glow. The treatment then ends with a body massage using a nurient rich lotion.

Herbal Body Wraps

This body wrap involves soaking fleece-backed linens in an herbal body tea composed of ginger root, rosemary leaf, allspice berry, eucalyptus leaf and clove stems. You will be then be wrapped in the warm, herb-soaked linen blankets. The herbs are wonderful anti-oxidants and pain relievers, rejuvenating the body thereby giving you renewed energy and a heightened sense of well being.

Applying cellulite gel to problem areas prior to body wrapping is also recommended. This warm and moist herbal treatment reduces the appearance of cellulite while releasing body impurities and easing away your body aches at the same time through lymphatic and circulatory stimulation. It will also reshape your body as well as firm, tone and soften your skin. The whole process takes about an hour but your time spent wrapped in the cocoon of linen is 40 relaxing minutes.

Paraffin Body Fandango Wrap

This body wrap is an anti-cellulite treatment using paraffin combined with Micronized (Fango) sea mud, thus the name parafango, which is applied warm on the body part which needs cellulite reduction. The mud coated body part is then wrapped in cellophane and warmed further by a heat blanket.

The mineral-rich natural sea mud dilates skin pores and causes perspiration allowing the penetration of the calming, pain killing and detoxifying elements of the mud into the skin. The mud also functions like a sauna, containing body heat which increases blood circulation. It cleans the body of toxins, smoothens, softens and conditions the skin.

It is likewise recommended for arthritis and joint pains for those who are on their feet most of the day. It brings back skin elasticity thereby firming the skin and prevents wrinkles. The benefits of Parafango treatment can also be experienced by those suffering from muscle injury, acute pain or chronic tendonitis.

The parafango treatment also stimulates body enzymes that break down cellulite contribute to inch loss. It is recommended prior to liposuction because it melts fat making it easier to extract from the body. It is a good complementary therapy for those who wish to reduce weight and body mass.

The whole treatment except the application and removal of parafango lasts 20 minutes for localized body wrap and around 60 minutes for full body wraps. Complete relaxation is also guaranteed after the treatment in addition to the other benefits mentioned. For maximum benefits, an exfoliating treatment should precede the wrap.
